BALLATER

Ballater, with a population of approximately 1300, has much to offer the visitor.

For sporting enthusiasts, apart from golf, there are bowls, tennis and putting facilities nearby. In the surrounding hills there are many walks and climbs. Fishing and shooting are popular pursuits, with permits obtainable. There is also a gliding club nearby.

Ballater is situated on the north bank of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire, 42 miles west of Aberdeen and about the same distance from the source of the Dee in the Cairngorm Mountains.

To the west, the road follows the course of the River Dee past Balmoral Castle and on to Braemar. With its royal connections, Ballater is an ideal base for a holiday, being well served by a wide selection of hotels and places to wine and dine. Royal Warrant suppliers to the Royal Family are very much in evidence among local shops and businesses - a guarantee of quality which reflects the area.

Ballater is easily accessible by road, rail and air to Aberdeen then by car.  From Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness you will have to make the journey by car, through pleasant and often spectacular countryside.
